Rebecca de Ruyter, MPT, Cert. MDT
LICENSED PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Rebecca graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with B.S. in kinesiology and a minor in psychology in 199. She continued her education at California State University Long Beach, receiving a Master’s of Physical Therapy in 2003.
Since graduating, Rebecca has pursued advanced “hands-on” education and achieved her McKenzie Certification in 2011. The Mc Kenzie method specializes in mechanical evaluation of spinal pain in the neck and back. The method emphasizes finding the correct exercise or movement pattern to eliminate pain as well as education to help modify postures and activities that may be contributing to pain, motion loss and weakness. Once a patient has gotten control over the pain, she is able to begin strengthening the spine and pelvis to avoid reoccurrence of symptoms.
In 2011 she completed the intensive 6-month Advanced Functional Biomechanics of the Lower Quarter training with Dr. Christopher M. Powers, PhD, PT, FATPA of USC. It is through this training that she became skilled in analyzing the biomechanics of movements such as running, biking and sports tasks. Rebecca can quickly identify deficiencies in movement to find the source of pain and can use her knowledge of ideal movement patterns to retrain and strengthen a correct movement pattern.
Rebecca is excited to be a part of the JOR team, knowing that she is aligning herself with like minded therapist’s who value hands on care, personal connection with patients, pursuance of advanced knowledge and skill, and who strive to be the best in their field.
Rebecca’s passion for the field of physical therapy has only grown over her career as she continues to see the power of exercise and movement in healing. It is because of these things that she remains active and continues to prioritize exercise in her own life. She enjoys road and mountain biking, dance aerobics, swimming, yoga, strength training and being outdoors with her dog lily.
